Roade Tennis Club

Roade Tennis Club was first formed in 1967 when, after some difficulty, permission was obtained from the County Council Education Department to use Roade Secondary School courts.  These were made available only between May and August on a restricted basis, and there were no toilet or changing facilities.  The courts were sub-standard, but despite the drawbacks the club flourished for at least ten years with both senior and junior members enjoying the facility  Eventually, however, the lack of facilities made the use of the courts unattractive and the club ceased to operate in 1984.

In 1992 the Community Centre and Playing Field Association (now the Village Hall and Playing Field Charity)  were able to realise the original scheme of providing tennis courts on the playing field, together with a small pavilion incorporating toilets, changing facilities and a clubroom.  The Tennis Club was reactivated in 1993 and is now able to provide Astroturf court playing facilities with floodlighting throughout the year.  Parishioners are automatically eligible for club membership and annual subscriptions are modest, thus making this fine facility within the reach of all.

There are tennis lessons for adults, group tennis coaching sessions for children midweek and weekends, tennis camps and tournaments run throughout the year.
